Happy October and Happy Autumn! Check out the list below to see important dates that you may want to jot down. We've got another quarterly month up ahead, so make sure you keep track of this month's deadlines that apply to you:

October 15, 2021

  • Extension Deadline for Individual (1040) and C Corps (1120) Tax Returns — IRS

October 25, 2021

  • Monthly DOR Filers: Excise Tax Return — DOR

  • Monthly City of Bellingham Filers: B&O Tax Return — City of Bellingham

October 31, 2021

  • Paid Family & Medical Leave Report for Payment for Q3 — Paid Leave

November 1, 2021

These are reports and returns that are generally due on October 31, but since that date is a Sunday, the deadline is moved to the next business day.

  • Employer's Quarterly Federal Tax Return (Form 941) for Q3 — IRS

  • State Unemployment Insurance (SUI) Report and Payment for Q3— ESD

  • L&I Report and Payment for Q3 — L&I

  • Quarterly DOR Filers: Excise Tax Return for Q3 — DOR

  • Quarterly City of Bellingham Filers: B&O Tax Return — City of Bellingham

What's New


Bellingham plastic bag ban to be replaced by new state law

Effective October 1, 2021

Bellingham's plastic bag ban will be replaced by Washington state's new plastic bag ban. This includes an increase from Bellingham's $0.05 fee for acceptable bags to $0.08. Learn more here.

Working Washington Grants: Border Business Relief Program

Available October 4 - 18, 2021

A grant of up to $50,000 will be available for customer-facing businesses that have faced hardship due to the restrictions on the US-Canadian border. Eligible businesses must have a physical location within a 20-mile radius of a Canadian border crossing or port and must be able to prove a reduction in business income or activity related to COVID-19. COVID Economic Injury Disaster Loan Cap Increase

Loan approvals greater than $500,000 begin on October 8, 2021

The SBA has increased the COVID EIDL cap from $500,000 to $2 million. These funds can be used for any normal operating expenses and working capital. In addition to this, the SBA has implemented a deferred payment period, established a 30-day exclusivity window, expanded the eligible use of funds, and simplified affiliation requirements.
