After a historic amount of rain in November, we hope that December will bring some sunshine. If your home or business has been affected by the flooding, the Whatcom County website has a page dedicated to Flood Response Information. We are keeping an eye out for resources available for those affected and will be posting them on our Facebook page If you would like to stay updated.

What's New & Reminders

Here are some payroll changes that will take effect beginning January 1, 2022.

Washington Workers' Compensation Insurance Increase

The average workers' compensation premium rate, administered by the Department of Labor & Industries (L&I), will increase by 3.1%. Individual employers may see their rates go up or down depending on various factors. Learn more here.

Minimum Wage Increase

The minimum wage in Washington state will be increasing to $14.49, up from $13.69 this year. Learn more here.

Paid Leave Premium Rate Increase

The premium rate for Paid Leave will be 0.6%, up from 0.4% this year. You will need to update your calculations to withhold the new 0.6% starting in January. Learn more here.

WA Cares Fund: A New Employee Premium

Employers will be responsible for collecting premiums and reporting wages for the WA Cares Fund in the new year. The premium rate will be 0.58% of each employee's gross wages and will be reported through the Paid Leave reporting system. Learn more here.
